1: Breastfeeding in a reclined posture after a caesarean section
If you have given birth through a caesarean section and cannot find a comfortable breastfeeding position, this could be an alternative. If you sit back and lay your baby on the side of your shoulder, you can comfortably breastfeed without putting pressure on your wound or straining it. You could also try the side position.
2: Upright breastfeeding or Hoppe rider seat
With upright breastfeeding or the Hoppe-Reiter seat, your baby sits astride your thigh or hip, with your spine upright and your head upright. 4 You can use this standstill in a newborn if you support it all around, and it is also suitable for an older baby who can already sit alone. Upright breastfeeding or the Hoppe-Reiter seat is often the most comfortable breastfeeding position for babies who suffer from reflux or ear infections (and therefore usually want to sit upright). It may also be suitable for babies who have a short tongue or weak muscle tone.
3: Quadruped position
In this position, your baby lies on your back as you kneel above it in a four-footed position and let your nipple hang in its mouth. 4 According to some mothers, this position is helpful for a short time in diseases such as mastitis when they do not want their breasts to be pressed or touched; others believe that gravity helps clog milk ducts free, although this has not yet been scientifically proven. You can also breastfeed your baby sitting or kneeling by leaning on it on the bed or sofa, or almost lying down by supporting your upper body with your arms. You may need pads and pillows to support yourself so that you don’t put too much strain on your back and shoulders.
However, this position seemed to help – I think because gravity was on my side and because my baby’s angle and position were so different than when breastfeeding – so my daughter could empty my breast differently.
You probably don’t want to use the quadruped position regularly, but it may be helpful if you need to change.
4: Breastfeeding in a sling
It may take some practice, but breastfeeding your baby in a sling can come in handy when you’re on the go, when you need to take care of older children, or when you do simple household chores.

6: Dancer handle
